Elisar takes a non-eyecare centric approach to solving eyecare challenges by leveraging 21st century technologies from a range of industries. They aim to use these technologies to drive down testing costs and take testing from big hospitals to the patients.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and ocular biometry play a critical role in diagnosing and managing sight-threatening eye conditions. OCT offers high-resolution, cross-sectional imaging of the retina, enabling early detection of glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy (DR), macular holes, vitreomacular traction, and retinal detachments. Ocular biometry quantifying axial length, corneal curvature, lens thickness, and anterior chamber depth supports precise intraocular lens power calculations for cataract surgery, helps monitor refractive errors and keratoconus, and identifies anatomical risk factors in angle‑closure glaucoma.
Elisar tasked us with designing the NOA- Novel Opthalmic Analyzer to make diagnosis efficient for the practitioners and comfortable for the patients. Elisar’s NOA is a next-generation diagnostic platform that integrates high-resolution OCT imaging and advanced optical biometry into a single, versatile device. Designed to enhance accessibility and patient comfort, NOA is available in multiple mounting configurations- floor, wall, ceiling, and chair, making it adaptable to any clinical environment.
Given their success with the AVA, Elisar returned to Bang Design to help them build the platform, the first of its kind in the country and perhaps the world.
Traditional eye care diagnostics often require multiple devices and patient visits, resulting in high setup costs, inefficient workflows, and discomfort during examinations. Space constraints and the lack of scalable solutions in small clinics further limit access to quality diagnostics.
Key goals that Elisar wished to achieve:
Eyecare in India comes across in multiple formats ranging from single doctor clinics to super specialty hospitals. Each format brings unique workflows and challenges such as doctor preferences, floor space availability, etc. We designed the NOA to be configurable for chair, wall, ceiling and floor mount to suit a variety of choices that enhanced patient and practitioner experience.
We put the patient first and designed the NOA around them, eliminating the need for uncomfortable movements and postures during examinations. This allowed doctors to process patients faster while making the examinations more comfortable for the patients. A win-win for patients and eyecare centers alike.
Medical products require a certain aesthetic to make the patients feel comfortable during their examinations. In most cases, this can be achieved by designing the parts of the products for either injection molding or RIM. Both these processes involve either a high upfront cost or a limited vendor base. We worked with Elisar to design all the parts for vacuum cast manufacturing, saving both upfront costs and long development time.
Our visualization teams worked with Elisar to create assets that they could use at various stages of the project. These involved renders to show case various configurations to their stakeholders during the design phases as well as market ready images for their product launch.
Our subscription model meant that we could work with Elisar as if we were a part of their in-house team. This allowed us to support them with multiple concepts during both design and engineering as well as provide postproduction support on a need basis.
