Orbic’s products cater to both personal and business needs, ensuring connectivity and productivity on the go. Orbic approached us to design a new device, the Tab8 5G, a product that could address the personal as well as the enterprise devices market.

Orbic has set its sights on the entry-level market, targeting students and gig workers who need a reliable device for both work and leisure. Understanding the importance of affordability and practicality, Orbic aimed to create a product that would resonate quickly with this audience. The result? A design that embodies a refined corporate aesthetic. Featuring a sleek black plastic body with smoothly rounded corners, this device strikes a balance between understated elegance and essential functionality, making it an ideal companion for those on the go.
Ergonomics were paramount in our design, considering that the target audience would likely use the Tab8 5G for long periods. We ensured that the bezel surrounding the display was generously sized, allowing for comfortable, continuous gripping. We also optimized the weight of the Tab8 5G, striking the perfect balance for users who need to carry it throughout the day while enjoying extended media consumption.
To enhance brand recognition and user experience, we accentuated the power and volume buttons with Orbic’s signature neon green. This vibrant color not only stands out against the sleek black body, making it easy for users to locate the controls, but also reinforces Orbic’s identity as a modern, dynamic brand. By integrating this distinctive hue, we create a visual connection to the Orbic family, ensuring that each interaction with the device feels cohesive and aligned with the brand’s ethos of innovation and accessibility.
While industrial design plays a crucial role in elevating a product’s allure, it’s essential that it doesn’t sacrifice affordability. Compromising on cost would dilute Orbic’s unique selling proposition of delivering premium features at accessible prices. In crafting the Speed 5G, we worked together with Orbic’s ODM to meticulously manage both the electrical and mechanical bills of materials, ensuring we stayed within budget without compromising quality.
