Meta Raises Quest 3 and Quest 3S Prices Due to RAM Shortage

Price Increase for Meta’s Virtual Reality Headsets

Meta has announced a price increase for its virtual reality headsets, the Quest 3 and Quest 3S, effective from April 19. The Quest 3S (128GB) will now cost $349.99, up $50, and the Quest 3S (256GB) will be priced at $449.99, also an increase of $50. The Quest 3’s price will rise by $100 to $599.99.

Details

The updated pricing applies to both new and refurbished units of the Meta Quest. All Meta Quest accessories, however, will retain their current prices. This move follows a global surge in the cost of memory chips, affecting a wide range of consumer electronics, including virtual reality devices.

Company Background

Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is a technology company that designs and develops virtual reality hardware, including the popular Quest series of headsets. The company is based in the United States and has been a significant player in the consumer VR market since the launch of its first headset.

Market Context

This price adjustment by Meta is a reflection of the broader impact of the RAM shortage on the tech industry. It underscores the challenges faced by hardware manufacturers in maintaining cost efficiency while delivering high-performance products. The decision to raise prices is a strategic move to sustain the quality of their VR offerings amidst rising component costs.
