Stress and Sleep Ring
Our Solution
How we enabled a neurology data venture to reliably measure brain and body biomarkers simultaneously and comfortably
The Result
Ten years of software development met contemporary hardware in a continuous health and mood tracker designed to be worn day and night.

The Story

Wearable health trackers are moving closer to the body than ever before. While smartwatches have become mainstream, the next frontier is the ring form factor—discreet, always in contact with the skin, and ergonomically suited for biosignal monitoring. The start-up venture wanted a next generation device that would use their proprietary neurology algorithms for a new function – to manage stress and mood in the daytime, and to detect sleep apnea, snoring, insomnia and total sleep health, via nightly monitoring. The goal? To design a piece of technology that is not only accurate and intuitive but also like a cherished piece of jewelry, subtly guiding users toward a more balanced state of being.
THE CHALLENGE
In a world saturated with apps and notifications, the challenge was to design a product that could capture and interpret a user’s physiological state—specifically their galvanic skin response (GSR)—in a way that was both medically accurate and emotionally resonant, in a form that felt like jewelry, not hardware. Unlike a wristwatch, a ring leaves no room for bulky electronics or mechanical assemblies. The outer body needed to look premium and withstand daily wear, while the inside had to provide stable contact with the skin for GSR and PPG sensors. Balancing durability, comfort, and manufacturability in such a compact package required a tight integration of materials and process engineering.

THE PROCESS

Blending Precision Engineering with Human-Centered Design

Our process began with deep empathy and a clear understanding of the user’s journey. We knew that for the Mental Health Ring to be successful, it had to be discreet and a pleasure to wear. We focused on two major aspects: the external housing and the internal sensor integration. This led us to a dual-material design that harmonized strength, comfort, and conductivity.

Machined Titanium Exterior

The visible part of the ring is CNC-machined titanium, chosen for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and hypoallergenic properties. We applied a color anodizing process to create a stunning, jewelry-grade finish with long-lasting wear resistance. Titanium also conveys a premium look and feel, elevating the product beyond typical consumer electronics.

Plastic Interior with Insert-Moulded Electrodes

Unlike other rings with cast epoxy, the inner surface is a precision-molded plastic housing. Into this, we integrated formed GSR electrodes using insert-moulding. This method locks the electrodes directly into the plastic body, eliminating assembly steps and ensuring robust electrical contact. The result: reliable and consistent biosignal acquisition while maintaining the smooth tactile comfort of a ring.

The overall weight of the device was kept to 4-6gm. The same set of moulds for the inner plastic could be used to mould the samples for the sizing kit with 5 options. Thereby saving significant costs. By keeping the construction to just two primary material systems—metal on the outside, engineered plastic on the inside—we reduced assembly complexity while ensuring both durability and consistent sensor performance.

THE RESULT

A New Standard for Wearable Wellness

The result is the Mental Health Ring: a beautiful, durable, and highly functional device that redefines what a wellness wearable can be. By meticulously blending premium materials and advanced manufacturing techniques, we delivered a product that not only works but also inspires.

  • Exceptional User Experience: The smooth, integrated design and comfortable fit led to high user adoption and consistent wear, which is crucial for collecting meaningful data.
  • Aesthetic and Brand Resonance: The use of anodized titanium elevates the product’s aesthetic, positioning it as a premium, design-forward brand in a market often dominated by clunky, plastic-heavy devices.
  • Market Launch: The Mental Health Ring garnering positive reviews during its pilot launch, for its design and functionality, proving that thoughtful engineering and artistic design can coexist beautifully.
