Amazon Acquires RIVR for Doorstep Delivery with Quadruped Robots

Amazon.com Inc. has acquired physical AI and robotics developer RIVR, according to an announcement by RIVR’s CEO on LinkedIn. The company, which uses quadruped robots for doorstep delivery, becomes part of Amazon without financial details being disclosed.

Details of the Acquisition

RIVR, previously known as Swiss-Mile, focuses on developing legged robots capable of handling last-mile delivery challenges, including climbing stairs and navigating curbs. The company’s RIVR TWO model is designed for such tasks. Amazon’s interest in RIVR was evident in 2024 when Jeff Bezos led a $22 million seed round through Bezos Expeditions and HongShan, with participation from the Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund.

Company Context

RIVR, based in Zurich, Switzerland, rebranded from Swiss-Mile in early 2025. The company has since expanded to the U.S., launching its own systems and partnering with alternative parcel-delivery platforms like Veho and food delivery services such as Just Eat Takeaway.com.

Industry Context

This acquisition is significant as it reflects Amazon’s continued investment in robotics and AI to improve safety, operational efficiency, and customer experience in delivery services. It also marks a shift from Amazon’s previously discontinued Scout delivery robot program, indicating a renewed approach to robotic delivery solutions.
